Bullying Prevention

By joining forces, educators and parents can prevent bullying in the school and address the needs of all children.

Whether a child is using bullying behaviors, is being targeted, or is a bystander to bullying, bullying is damaging to children. Communities working together can ensure the emotional and physical well-being of every child.

JFCS' Bullying Prevention Program features Steps to Respect, an evidence-based bullying prevention program developed by the Committee for Children in Seattle for educators and parents of students grades 3 – 6. It includes tested methodologies for preventing bullying in the school and community, parent and teacher education and training, skill practice and coaching for students, school-wide policy development, and family awareness workshops.

Teacher Professional Development

We also offer professional development for teachers of elementary through high school students on relational aggression, cyber-bullying, and strategies for creating a community of kindness and respect in school. The training for teachers and administrators includes:

  • Half- or full-day programs that provide an overview of the bullying prevention program and staff training in Steps to Respect methodology and implementation.
  • Full-day programs that provide an overview of the Steps to Respect program, coaching, and curriculum orientation.
  • Parent education workshops that include building a caring school and involved community (2 hours), relational aggression—how girls bully (2 hours), and cyber-bullying (2 hours).
