  • NEW CLASS! An Organized Family Is Not An Oxymoron (all ages) (September) - Managing a family in today’s fast-paced world can be overwhelming. Clutter seems to multiply in a matter of minutes. Your kid’s schedules seem to be busier than your own. Significant amounts of time and energy are spent looking for things. Learn strategies to keep your home clutter free, how to set-up organizational systems that allow you to find things when you need them, and tips to manage your time better so your “to-do’s” actually get done.
  • Setting Limits - Raising Responsible Children Through Choices and Consequences (2nd - 8th grade) (October) - Understand your school-age child's needs and behaviors, work on setting family rules, applying appropriate consequences, and following through with your discipline plan.
  • Mothers and Sons (all ages) (October) - Explore this special relationship: what boys need from their moms: handling boy energy: fostering good communication and closeness.
  • FREE CLASS! Ask the Nanny Expert (all ages) (October) - Bring your challenges, questions, and concerns regarding caregivers. Receive advice on issues such as: effective communication, establishing a team approach, terminating a nanny relationship, financial issues, and any other areas of concern.
  • Kids Turn(4 - 17 years) - A parent/child workshop for families experiencing parental separation or divorce. The focus of this workshop is on the children and supporting them while the family reorganizes.
  • FREE CLASS! Developmental Red Flags - What to look for and What to do (4 - 16 years) (November) - Dr. Rosenbaum will share concrete, helpful information about learning and behavior in children between the ages of 4 and 16. She will share what to do if teachers express concerns about your child's social developement or rate of academic progress. Specific red flags will be identified as will steps to address areas of need. Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity will be defined and the diagnostic process will be explained. There will also be opportunities to ask questions throughout the presentation.

Lectures and Special Events

  • That Makes Me So Mad ! Child Anger (3 - 8 years) (September) - Children get angry in a split second and can leave parents in total bewilderment and turmoil. We will explore anger, how to help children regain control of themselves, triggers that precipitate the anger, and typical responses to the anger. You'll learn effective coping strategies for you and your child.
  • You're Driving Me Crazy! Parent Anger (3 - 8 years) (September) - In this class you will have the opportunity to analyze your anger toward your child. We'll explore what triggers that anger in you and analyze positive and negative responses to that anger. Then we'll investigate productive management techniques to help you when such situations occur in the future.
  • Choosing a Preschool Workshop and Book Signing (November) - Join Jenifer Wana, author of the new book "How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery School," (avail. 8/1/10) as she discusses criteria to consider when choosing a program, what to look for during school tours, popular preschool philosophies, and tips for gaining admission into selective schools. If you are unable to attend a workshop and you provide at least one week's advance notice to us, we will apply your payment to another workshop. If you cancel less than a week before a class, you will forfeit your payment. If JFCS Parents Place cancels a group or workshop, you are entitled to a full refund or credit for a future workshop.
