" I learned a lot this summer [through Career Futures Exploration]. I got a great opportunity to meet people in a field that I'm interested in, and got to learn about the processes that are required in the job and how they got there."

Academic Year and Summer Internships

YouthFirst offers internships during the summer and academic year for exceptional 10th, 11th, and 12th and  graders. Our internship programs are terrific opportunities for high school students to gain valuable experience working in the various departments of Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

Teens are placed in positions both at JFCS and in the Peninsula community. In addition to learning important job skills, interns also attend workshops that focus on a wide range of topics, including office etiquette and responsible work behavior, how to research job opportunities, résumé and cover-letter writing, informational and general interviewing skills, the work of JFCS as a social service agency, diversity issues, values exploration, and more.

Pay for Work

The internship programs pay $9.79 per hour and require 4 - 10 hours of work per week during the academic year and 20 hours per week during the summer. In addition to gaining important job skills, teens acquire greater clarity about academic and vocational options and opportunities. The internship programs enhance their understanding of the steps they need to take to achieve their career goals.
