In this lively, interactive program national parenting expert, Paula Statman, will discuss how to keep children safe while at the same time helping them become self-reliant. “Starting in preschool you want to avoid the common trap of over protecting your child,” says Statman, author of Raising Careful, Confident Kids in a Crazy World. “Kids don’t grow when they are over protected and they grow up too fast if they aren’t protected enough.” Statman recommends that parents use “the 5P’s”, an approach that gauges how much responsibility and freedom children can handle successfully. A repeat guest on Oprah and resident expert on several parenting sites, including Nickelodeon, Statman brings wisdom, humor, and personal stories to a topic that concerns us all.
