The Next Chapter ProjectThe Next Chapter Project enables 10th, 11th, and 12th graders to develop profound connections to the Holocaust. Over the course of the rigorous six-month program, teens interview Holocaust survivors about their lives and create books that include each survivor's story, along with genealogical and historical research. These books will be presented to the California State Assembly at the Yom Ha Shoah memorial in May 2011, Yad Vashem, and the Jewish Historical Institute. At weekly workshops, students study Holocaust history and art, how to write and document oral histories, and how the Jewish community in Poland has re-emerged after the 1989 fall of Communism. The Next Chapter will take place on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, beginning in December 2010 and ending in May 2011. It will be offered in San Francisco and Marin and on the Peninsula. Applications are now available, and space is limited. To apply, please contact Taylor Epstein, the Director of YouthFirst programs, at 415-359-2463 or TaylorE@jfcs.org. The Next Chapter Project is funded by the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life and Culture.
